The first of five · a first taste
Dia Beacon and a Walkable Main Street

Beacon is a Hudson River town anchored by Dia Beacon, a former factory turned into one of the best contemporary-art museums in the country, all vast daylit halls of large-scale work.

Revealed inside

Take the Metro-North Hudson Line from Grand Central to Beacon, about 1.5 hours, trains roughly hourly, and $15–25 each way. The station is a short walk or shuttle from Dia and Main Street.

Revealed inside

Dia's halls are best in the morning light and before the afternoon crowd, and the museum's hours are shorter than you'd expect, check them and build the day around them, not the other way around.

A note from us

From us to you

We've done every one of these guides ourselves.

Some are where we celebrate birthdays. Some are where we take friends visiting New York City. Some have just become our favorite “we don't even need to think about it” go-tos.

These are the guides we recommend to the people we care about most.
